Why We Worship With the Elderly
4/25/2009 1:18:48 PM
Just as Jesus commanded Peter, “Take care of my sheep” (John 20:16), so too we are to care for God’s children, both you and old. We worship with the elderly because we care deeply about their spiritual lives as well as their physical and emotional needs. Spiritual health, which comes from faith in Jesus Christ, brings true peace and reset. While it is important to offer care and comfort, what the elderly person desires most earnestly and benefits from most significantly is to participate in the love and grace of our Lord through worship.
When we worship with the elderly we see in them the image of God. It is not the physical body, which grows old and weak but a person’s spirit which reflects the image of God. It is this part of us, no matter how old or sick, which longs after our Creator and thirsts for communion with Him. When We Care Ministries reaches out to the elderly, the love of Christ is seen and the commands of our Lord are obeyed.
When we worship with the elderly, we are showing love, through words and deeds, which opens the door for the gospel message.
“I didn’t believe in God”… she said…”until my granddaughter came home for Christmas. She had been gone for about three months and we didn’t know where she was; but people here prayed for my situation, and God answered their prayers. She came home! Now…I love the Lord Jesus.”
Though no ministry is a numbers game and though we can only look to God for affirmation, we do see the fruit of our labors. As Christ said, “By their fruit you will recognize them” and “Every good tree bears fruit.” As more and more of our elderly brothers and sisters come to saving knowledge of Jesus, we know the dedication and loving service of We Care Volunteers has a real impact for the Kingdom. Worshipping with and ministering to the elderly can be very challenging, but the rewards are fabulous.
You can be a part of this rewarding ministry, by the giving of your time, talent, and by generously sharing your treasure to support this ministry. Please become a volunteer.
